About the book

Fight or Submit: Standing Tall in Two Worlds is a memoir of Grand Chief Ronald Derrickson. The book opens with Grand Chief Ron Derrickson saying his "story is not a litany of complaints but a list of battles" that he has fought. There has been an assassination attempt in August 1982 by a hitman hired by local whites on him. The assassin was hired by white businessmen to eliminate an “inconvenient Indian” and restore the bargain rates they had previously enjoyed in accessing and using the Westbank First Nation (WFN)’s land and resources.

Fighting all the odds, he increased his community’s revenues by 3500% as Chief and led his people into a war in the forest over logging rights. This book tells how he always lifted his community and had fun along the way while fighting against all the odds in the face of hatred and violence.
