Be part of the solution, not part of the pollution.” - Anonymous.

While plastic has become a major part of our lives, it has also become a severe cause of environmental pollution. Research scientists have suggested that plastic is the main contributor to waste and environmental degradation. Every year, around 8 million tonnes of plastic are dumped in the oceans. Now, it has become mandatory to minimize the use of single plastic and go biodegradable. But how?

Taking into concern the disadvantages and ill effects of plastic, Notpla is designed. Plastic is non-biodegradable, but Notpla is biodegradable and environment-friendly. But who designed Notpla? What is Notpla? What is the idea behind it? Too many questions and we are here to answer.

What is Notpla?

“Not Plastic” is referred to as Notpla. It is a biodegradable material designed to make the packaging disappear. Notpla is made from seaweed and plants that disappear naturally. The Notpla’s innovation of packaging has been shortlisted for the years’ Dezeen Awards in the sustainable design category.

Superunion senior creative director Mark Wood explained by stating, “ Notpla is a seaweed-based sustainable packaging startup on a mission to make packaging as we know it disappears naturally.”

According to Notpla’s designer, “The material is entirely biodegradable and edible and can be composted at home in four or six weeks.”

One of the team members of Notpla also explained that “ Consumers today are not just aware, but emotionally connected with the issues of plastic pollution. We joined its designed engineers and backers to deliver the strategy, name, identity, and brand that would leave people in no doubt about its potential value in the world.”

The idea behind Notpla

In an interview with WeWhoDo, the co-founder, Pierre Paslier, spilled the beans about Notpla.

On asking about the idea behind Notpla, he stated, “ My fellow co-founder Rodrigo and I met at Imperial College London, during our Masters in Innovation Design Engineering and this is where the work of Ooho began. We wanted to create an alternative of a small plastic bottle that would feel more like a fruit than an industrial container.  We started quite humbly by mixing food ingredients in our kitchen because we didn’t have access to the lab.”

He further added, “ It was only in 2019 that we finally gave the material we’d been working on since 2013 a name, and that is when Notpla was born. So, Ooho is the flexible packaging for the beverages and sauces and the Notpla is the material combining seaweed and plants.”

More about Ooho

Ooho is a biodegradable container made from a type of seaweed. It is edible, it means no waste and a clean environment. Ooho is made from Notpla and is already used in multiple sports events. The designers of Notpla created smaller-scale versions of Ooho that hold the liquids such as toothpaste, coffee, and suncream. Ooho was used to make marathons plastic-free and to provide easy-to-use water packets for the runners.

Brands using sustainable packaging

Apart from Notpla, many brands take environmental pollution seriously. Like Notpla, the brands use sustainable packaging to avoid the usage of plastic. There is also a roadmap to sustainable energy by 2030. Here are a few of the brands that use sustainable packaging.

Calvin Klein

PHV, the company that owns Calvin Klein, has claimed to have 100 percent sustainable packaging by 2025. Currently, 74 percent packaging of the brand is already recyclable. But the larger goal of the brand is to become zero waste by 2030.

The company is the first to join the How2Recycle initiative. The initiative includes educating consumers on how to recycle waste. For education, they have detailed instructions on the packaging of the product.

Amazon

Amazon is one of the leading e-commerce websites. It makes it the most influential brand. Thus, Amazon keeps on taking different environment-friendly initiatives to spread awareness in concern to climate change. One of the most recent initiatives is Shipment Zero.

The Shipment Zero was launched in the year 2019, which aimed to have 50 percent of their shipments net carbon zero by the year 2030.

Boxed Water

Water is the life of humans and a clean environment is the need of the globe. Boxed water is the only company that is only listed in the sustainable packaging. The Boxed water packaging is 100 percent recycled and recyclable. It does not contribute to plastic waste. The company aims to minimize the use of single used plastic in the market. Their packaging is made from cardboard.

Lifestyle Over Luxury

“The most sustainable product is one that already exists” taking this into consideration, Lifestyle Over Luxury works. Every item sold on the website with upcycled material such as end-of-roll fabrics, factory floor cutting, and recycled bottles. The packaging of the brand is completely biodegradable, even the tape used for boxes to shut.

Conclusion

While the pollution is increasing and degrading nature, it just does not become the duty of brands and companies to go biodegradable. Every human must go eco-friendly and save nature.

What a great relief for my dad's business pages on Facebook / Instagram accounts after it got compromised by a yet to be identified strange person ,all of a sudden he got locked out of his personal and vital business pages. As the only admin on several groups that he runs for real estates in Italy with over 15k members . He is completely at a loss here because he can't make a new profile because of hundreds of important business and personal contacts on his pages that are very critical to his online businesses and websites. Thanks to (fixurworries ATdoctor DOT com) who finally retrieved his Facebook/Instagram accounts within 48 hours.
