“Be with a leader when he is right, stay with him when he is still right, but leave him when he is wrong.”

This is a quote taken from the shared pearls of wisdom of one of the most inspiring figures in the history of mankind, Abraham Lincoln. It speaks of the type of leadership that is right and should be followed. However, people around the world sometimes struggle to understand the responsibility and impact effective leadership can make. But to do so, every leader and one who is aspiring to lead must understand that it is vision, alignment, and execution that defines the outcome of leadership. And to find out the role of these three characteristics play in leadership let’s take a look at them one at a time.

Leadership Vision

Vision

Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Mahatma Gandhi, or Nelson Mandela have all belonged to different parts of the world and yet connected in a way. All four of them are renowned great revolutionary leaders of their country who dedicated their entire life to their respective visions. And such strong their visions were that it has vastly changed the outlook of the world. This makes it clear that all great leaders must have a vision. Some are born visionary leaders while others have to inculcate in them.

Similarly, if you want to be a leader and an effective one at that, then you will need to develop a vision of your own in correspondence to the purpose you are aiming to serve. A vision will help you attain the clarity of thoughts and guide you in paths where you can share them effectively with others causing them to join you. When you achieve this, you will notice a great positive change in not just yourself but also in the people around you. And this is what great leaders do. They bring a positive change in the lives of others.

Alignment

Alignment

Where the vision is the beginning of the leadership, alignment is the core of it. Alignment in leadership is all about “Walking the talk.” Often you must have come across leaders or people in managerial positions who keep telling things on how something should be done but never does that themselves. It creates an imbalance, lack of agreement, and an air of uncertainty due to which everyone part of it somehow suffers. However, alignment in leadership ensures that no such thing happens. Alignment in leadership helps in clarity of thoughts, effective communication, and can even inspire people to become more encouraging and more expressive. It also helps in keeping people together. Thus, alignment will always play an important role in the outcomes of leadership.

Execution

Execution

Execution in leadership is all about structuring the plans from all the in-depth information collected from the people and situation around and making the most out of it. Proper execution is what makes the work of a great vision and effective alignment worth it. A great leader is someone who can muster all his strength together to create a momentous action driven plan or a strategy to make sure all the problems and issues of their people are resolved completely.

This is how vision, alignment, and execution can bring a change in leadership but to make them effective you need to start with crafting a strong vision. Then you must use it to create an alignment amongst your people and when the time is right pull the trigger to gain the most of it.
