Entrepreneurship and middle school

In today's world, you can’t rely on anything or anyone to make you successful. You have to be accountable for your career and create your path.

The old promise made by our education system was that if you worked hard in class you would be almost guaranteed employment as a gift for your efforts. But sooner or later, many students realize that they can't pass their degree in for a job upon graduation anymore.

Years ago, it might be rare for a student to possess entrepreneurship experience on their resume because the cost of starting any business was so high we did not have the resource or expertise to pull it off.

But, now the time has changed. Hundreds of colleges offer entrepreneurship courses and employers are starting to understand the importance of that type of education system. This will also help them to understand the startup trends during their higher education.

Ways to introduce entrepreneurship among children from middle school

Introducing children to the opportunity of entrepreneurship at the right age, leaves a door to an all-new career for them, from the very beginning. While they learn about handling finances - through basics - it also grooms them in a variety of skill-sets such as brainstorming, risk-taking, finding opportunities in every odds, co-working and all this accompanies with a sense of responsibility.

By implementing the below exercises in the school, you can introduce children to the magical world called entrepreneurship.

Organizing brainstorming sessions

Indulge students in brainstorming sessions in groups. During every session interchange their groups. Keep a box in your classroom for students to drop in their ideas for brainstorming for the next sessions. Each time ask the students to select topics surrounding entrepreneurship. After each session asks each group to come ahead with a presentation. These small exercises will help them think from the perspective of an entrepreneur.

Solution centric discussions

Each session has to be different from the previous ones. Divide your class into a group of four students each. Give them a situation and let each group come up with a solution to come out of that situation. This will enhance their rational thinking and reasoning abilities. Also, this exercise will polish their decision-making skills.

Form clubs

You can form various clubs each catering to different fields of entrepreneurship and ask students to be a part of that club according to their own interests. These clubs can then organize visits, lectures, and many other activities for students to evolve their interests in entrepreneurship.

Organize lectures by guest speakers

You can form a guest panel of experts from various fields who are already entrepreneurs. These experts have one-to-one interaction with children and guide them for their doubts.
