The future is of robots, technology, and artificial intelligence. We have already witnessed a vast development in the field of technology. Many brands, like Apple,iRobot, and Tesla are working towards robotics and automatic cars. The year 2022 will be of technology as Apple plans to launch mixed reality devices and Facebook ( Meta) is working towards AR smart glasses.
But if you ask Elon Musk, the most significant new product Tesla developing in 2022 is a humanoid robot. Musk said, “ The company’s future humanoid robot: internally named Optimus, is the most important product development we are doing this year.”
What is a Humanoid Robot?
Sometimes called an android, a humanoid robot is a robot that resembles humans. Humanoid robots generally have a head, two hands, and two legs. Some of them may also have a face with eyes and a mouth. You must have seen humanoid robots in movies like The Terminator, The Matrix, A. I. Artificial Intelligence, and many more.
Elon Musk’s Humanoid Robot
In August 2021, Elon Musk announced, “Tesla would build a humanoid robot designed to eliminate dangerous, repetitive, and tedious tasks and respond to voice commands, promising to demonstrate a prototype by 2022.”
Optimus is also known as Tesla Bot and it will run on the same artificial-intelligence system that powers Tesla’s driver-assistance technology. It is said to be 173 centimeters tall and 57 kilograms and can carry loads of up to 20 kilograms. The first use of the Tesla Bot, also known as Optimus, will be in the company’s facilities.
According to Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, “ Tesla is arguably the world’s biggest robotics company because of our cards and like semi-sentient robots on wheels. It kind of makes sense to put that knot in a humanoid form.”
Ben Wolff, chairman and CEO of Sarcos Robotics, said: “ I think Elon Musk is miraculous when it comes to identifying opportunities, and he’s spot on about Tesla begging for a robotics company.”
No New Vehicle
Famous for its sustainable and electric automobiles, Tesla has announced that it won’t be introducing any new vehicle models in 2022. Musk’s comment may have disappointed customers and investors who were waiting for the long-promised vehicles like Roadster, Cybertruck, and Semi heavy-duty truck.
Conclusion
Artificial intelligence is complex and difficult. It is harder to create an automatic robot than to create a self-driven car. Tesla will face many hurdles in the journey to creating a humanoid robot. The day when the humanoid robot gets launched will be a day to celebrate for the entire world.
