Google makes one-hand search on smartphones easier.
The search application of Android running on google is getting a new redesigned interface that should help in the one-handed use. The tabs, search bars, and menus of app designers are now usually located at the bottom of a phone’s screen because the phones get with larger screens. In the new trial, google has shifted the search bar to the bottom section of the screen in specific app users.
Spandroid has recently seen an update for the android version of the google app, version 220.127.116.11.arm64, which now places the search bar at the bottom of the screen. Such a change takes the normally placed search bar a notch lower so that it is more reachable. These screenshots indicate a comparatively tall search box above three icons for home, search, and saved.
The new search bar is intended for easier navigation across large-screen smartphones like tablets. This update allows users to start a search by simply clicking on their thumb. The user does not require two hands to tap or swipe on the keyboard. This is especially important in the case of dealing with bigger items.
Is the new layout accessible to all?
However, it should be noted that this new look in the Google search app can only be accessed by a set number of users who have opted to update their beta version. That being the case, most users should be in on the 14.4736 version. After updating to the latest beta via the Play Store, Gadgets 360 couldn’t access the new design. This confirms that the new setup is being released in a staggered manner among the beta test audience.
However, Google has not yet officially acknowledged an intention to enhance accessibility of search bar within Android App. Therefore, it is unclear if this is going to be an add on for every user or an option. It can also be the default settings.
It should be noted that Google once implemented a similar change for Android where the search bar was positioned at the bottom and later withdrew it. Nevertheless, they gave a green light to beta testers on IOS to experience a shift of the search bar towards the bottom part of the screen in August.
