About The Book:

In The Unicorn’s Shadow: Combating the Dangerous Myths that Hold Back Startups, Founders, and Investors, Wharton School professor Ethan Mollick puts up with us to the lead of an empirical revolution in entrepreneurship. New data and better exploration methods have reversed the conventional knowledge behind what a successful founder looks like, how they accomplish, and how the startup ecosystem functions.

Mollick insists that entrepreneurship is too significant, both for society and for the individuals who start corporations, to be eclipsed by the shadows of unicorns. He shows we can democratize entrepreneurship, but only by pursuing an evidence-based strategy that puts to rest the false descriptions that surround it.

By examining a wealth of evidence and educational studies, the author moves beyond jargon and ratified wisdom to highlight the principles that startup founders need to contemplate and the hurdles they may have to withstand. Mollick encompasses a nuanced dissection of the idea- generation process, indicating how to come up with business theories by looking at “the means at their disposal”, what knowledge or connections they already have, rather than concentrating on where they want to end up. Readers will come away with a reasonable knowledge of startup myths as well as a receptacle that they can use to “match the intentions of the monomyth where you can, while pushing the boundaries in areas that matter to you.

Book is definitely worth a read. Finally, someone took the trouble to summarize all that great academic study and distil it into a book that is easy to examine. We are all constantly misinformed by the tales of unicorns and the billionaires out there. But what we require are the insights that will truly help the 99.9% of the rest of us as we chart a lesson for entrepreneurial accomplishment.
