The future of work is swiftly evolving. The adoption of new technologies, alongside COVID-19’s influence on the international financial system and workforce, has created a higher demand for jobs requiring technical, industrial, and commercial enterprise skills.

The latest World Economic Forum data stated that more than forty-two percent of all jobs would trade drastically by 2022, emphasizing abilities such as analytics, questioning, and complicated problem-solving. Data and AI, engineering, cloud computing, and product improvement have been amongst the top industries that will see persevered increase in the subsequent few years.
But today’s college students might also not be prepared for these up-and-coming careers, according to a current survey carried out by IBM Consult.
The survey requested 300 U.S. secondary college students aged 14 to 18 about their rising science abilities and fields’ activities and expertise. Despite over half of the college students reporting interest they want a new career this year, at least eighty percent have obtained little to no education in key areas such as cybersecurity, cloud technological knowledge, or artificial intelligence.

Gen Z Students Report Interest in Emerging Tech
The survey stated that forty-two percentage of college students had been involved in pursuing a science career. More than 1/2 said it was because most jobs will require the use of technology. Others noted their non-public activity (50 percent) and the reality that tech jobs pay properly (46 percent).
Students had been involved in studying greater AI (50 percent), accompanied by cybersecurity (47 percent) and cloud technology (42 percent). Yet much less than a 1/3 felt outfitted to use these applied sciences in their existence or career, in accordance with the report.
Meanwhile, college students who stated they weren’t fascinated in rising tech referred to several motives why: forty-two percentage stated it was once due to the fact they didn’t discover any of the areas thrilling or engaging, whilst others cited it used to be due to the fact they didn’t apprehend them (24 percent) or have time to analyze greater (16 percent).
